The project of this week is creating art pieces that are significant from our life by using Rhino. Unfortunately, I totally underestimated how complex the object that I want to create, so I don't have enough time to finish it all. The only piece that came out perfect is a Chinese knot. Chinese knots are usually made to represent special meanings. The knot that I create means Auspicious. I came to Canada three years ago, and never had a chance to go back since then because of COVID. The Chinese knots means a lot to me. One of the reasons is our family always make knots during Chinese New Year for good luck. However, I never pay attention to how to make them. But today, I have a chance to build it digitally. In this piece, I use double layers to show it is a knot instead a flat structure. All the intersection is separated from each other but also fitted in gaps. In the end, the piece should only have one path. Although, I put different colour for different section just for me...
The documentary: Objectified by Gary Hustwit is a very successful video that indicates the definition of design comprehensively. Design is the solution that improve our daily life. Therefore, design brings a lot into economic level as well. People tend to purchase objects that are new and well designed, not only for the convenience when using it, but also for distinguishing themselves with others. One of the most common examples is cars. People's adoration and comparison to the cars make them become performance objects. In the documentary, former design director of BMW group, Chris Bangle indicates that, the real challenges of car design are going to be addressing the future generations perception of what they want cars to be in their lives . Our car can be the description of ourselves. Such as what does the car shows about me or how is this car matches with me. This also makes me to think what kind of car can represent me in the future, which inspired the visu...
This week, we got into the stage of first prototype. So for my piece, I stated with printing the blue print of my paper 3d object. I put notes on each of them so I know which part of the object I am making. Also help me to think what is the easiest way to put them together since my piece is a complete close object. So it would be hard to stick all surface together when I close to the end. There are 10 pages in total, and I made some minor mistakes, but that's the problem that I can fix on my final piece. Next, I cut them all up and separated according to the colour that I gave them in Rhino. Which are yellow, blue and white. I am going to put together white and blue first since they are the main structure of the piece. And the yellow part represents the corners. I start to put some of the part together because I am way too excited so I want to see how is it going to turn out. However, I put them together too fast, so it was really hard for me to put the part (upper left-low...
