Refine_MeshMaker










During the in class breakout critique, I received a lot of developmental advise from our classmates. It is very interesting to get know what kind of presentation are my works showing. Among all of my works, the 6th one, which is the combination of tooth brush and mushrooms got the most critique and positive suggestions. Therefore, I decide to refine this one for this project.


The idea of this piece of my work is to suggest how important to brush our teeth. If you don’t care about it. The destination can be brushing mushroom out of your mouth. Lots of my peers indicated that to present my idea clearly, I need to emphasize the disgusting effect after ignoring dental health. Therefore, I specified the mushrooms by giving them patterns so they look toxic and drawing mycelia so they look gross. Also, I got the reflection that the brush didn’t look accurate. I think that is because there were a piece of rectangle on top of brush before. So I took it off and added more variations on the handle.


I think my creation shows an obvious relationship with Remix Culture. Most importantly, I think it is kind of Juxtaposition. Toothbrush and mushroom were two completely different concepts before. What I mean is toothbrush is kind of cleaning tool and mushroom is kind of food or fungi. And how can those two things become together? To present the idea that it is important to take care of your tooth !

3D-Printed Object: Chess Set

    For this mile stone project, I designed a mechanic chess set. The main mechanic place of this chess set is there is a part of the chess will drop down when you pick the chess up. When you pick up a chess and move it, it can possibly be the chess has been defeated. To emphasize on that, I designed the drop down part like another face of the chess characters, and make them look like crying. This shows more on the King and Queen, because they have the extend part on top like crown. The concept behind it would make more sense in this case. The peer to peer sessions helped a lot. I got feedback  on improving the designs. PaperCraft: The Final

Ha! Finally! I finished this project! Okay! First thing first, the photos--- (some rendered pictures) The final 3D paper model turn out great in my opinion. Since I am doing a Chinese knot for the project, of cause I choose the colour red for the main colour. At the same time, on the critique, we mentioned adding a 2d element on the model. And then I thought about a dragon pattern. I also document my process together. Not only because I think they are neat, but also it help me to go back to check my notes. I have a version on normal letter paper for me to take notes and photocopy, and a version on the card-stock just for cutting. Since it is 2d, just to help me visualize, I hand drew those on paper. For the start, I am not sure how is it going to turn out, so I cut out the shape on white card-stock and tried on my prototype that on last post. Surface Design Study: research and design

For this milestone project, we are asked to design a surface that inspired by the surface design in real life. However, I feel restricted to take inspiration from other surface designs. So I changed my mind and took inspirations from the environment and the architecture.  The primary process is analyzing significant characteristics of the picture and exaggerating them to design a surface.
