Reverse Engineered Object: Progress I

Image
For the Reverse Engineered Object project, I decided to do this water colour palette. Even though there is a lot of part and have some complicate curves, I still want to try to challenge myself a bit.  For the beginning stage, because the form is complicated, I plan to take it slow and start with basic shape first. The water colour palette is mainly three major parts and some details. If we don't look at the small part right now, the object itself can be separated into top, middle and bottom. Because the top is the easiest part to make (I think), I start with measuring the top first, and some of the middle just for reference when making. And taking the bottom part to the last.  Building the object in rhino is the same process. I have not start a lot in rhino yet because I still want to go back check my data one last time before I start everything. Ideally, for future process, I will double check the top layer and start building the shape. After experiencing more, I feel I will be

Getting started with [Reverse Engineered Object]

Image
For this reverse Engineered Object project that's coming up, I choose to doing something from my study desk. Those are the stuffs that easy to get, easy to break and easy to put back together. The selections are a ball-point pen, a white-out and a portable water colour palette. The Ball Point Pen I have been using this pen for so long. It is so well designed and easy to use that makes me always bring it with me. I really hope I can study from how the company designed this pen and recreate it. The advantage of selecting this object is that the pen itself is clear, I can see the structure inside and makes it easy for me to understand, However, it is also very delicate and some parts are locked inside the pen which makes it very hard to measure in the future. (Hard but I don't think is not achievable?) The White-Out The white-out is an object that was very important to my study life back in China where we are not allowed to use pencil for daily homework after grade 7. I used to ha

Surface Design Study: research and design

Image
For this milestone project, we are asked to design a surface that inspired by the surface design in real life. And here are some research that I did in the past 2 weeks Picture 1- Picture 4 Some of the architecture pictures in my photo album. Picture 5 - Picture 6 The bus seats from bus number 300 and bus number 88 During the scavenger hunt, I was originally looking at different surface design in my daily life. However, I feel restricted to take inspiration from other surface designs. So I changed my mind and took inspirations from the environment and the architecture.  The primary process is analyzing significant characteristics of the picture and exaggerating them to design a surface. The picture that I am experimenting with my process planning below: The characteristics that I collected from this picture: yellow plane, the shape of the wall, different kinds of plants, white decoration close to the window.  Some designs that I come up with: And the design that I came up in the end: I
